The Architectural Wonders of Antonio Gaudi

© Alex E. ProimosMy visit to Barcelona will always be fresh in my mind particularly because of the mesmerizing and inspirational architecture of the ingenious Modernist architect, Antoni Gaudi. Who cares about function--I love the aesthetics! In his designs he incorporates a certain playfulness with colorful mosaics and shapely twists and turns that highlight a sense of freedom and pure imagination. In fact, in writing this blog, I learned that because of a childhood illness, Gaudi had to spend a lot of time in isolation, especially alone in nature.
When you visit Gaudi's tourist attractions, you'll sense the creative mind of one who spent lots of time alone: the colossal Roman-Catholic church, Sagrada Familia, that has been under construction since 1882; Park Guell with its interesting serpentine shapes and intricate mosaic complementing the relaxing greenery, and Casa Mila that appears to melt into the skyline, among others.
I suggest finding a qualified tour guide to take you through Gaudi's masterpieces because each one is rich with history and interesting stories.
